China iPhone 5 Release Drives iOS 6 Adoption?

There were rumors earlier in the week that the release of Google Maps for iOS was driving an increase in adoption of iOS 6. The thinking being, people were holding off installing iOS 6 until there was a Google Maps option available for the platform. While there were certainly some people doing this, it never seemed right to me that the number was large enough to account for the change.

Today, MacRumors posted a story with supporting data from Chitika that shows very little increase in domestic iOS 6 adoption rate. The actual cause of the previously observed increase appears to be a little more obvious on second thought.

Dr. Drang on Maps

Dr. Drang published his thoughts on the mapping situation between Apple and Google. I agree for the most part, but think this has been far more painful for Apple than they were prepared for. It has also harmed their reputation. How bad the harm was will be revealed over time.
