Is Twitter Still Twitter Without 3rd Party Support?

I think Twitter needs to be a little bit careful. Matthew Panzarino lays out developer concerns over the direction Twitter may be headed over at The Next Web. I know I wouldn't be nearly as active on Twitter if it wasn't for Tweetbot. Twitter needs a way to monetize their service, and I'd happily pay. Just don't cripple or squash the 3rd party clients users have grown to love.
