Here's an interesting take over at The Verge on the competing Microsoft & Apple views. I don't necessarily believe Microsoft is correct in their approach, but the cool thing is the market will decide what's best. I ultimately hope Microsoft is onto something with the Surface and Windows 8. If for no other reason that to push Apple to continue innovating.
