MacRumors links to a video showing a reported new iPhone front panel being measured and compared to one from the iPhone 4s. If this isn't a real component, Apple has done a masterful job of misdirecting the rumor press. There's sure a lot of smoke coming from this design. I guess we'll find out in several short weeks if there's fire.
